Executive overview
The SCO read-only thesis, pointed at R&D and product: investment, portfolio progress, throughput, and time-to-market - observed across PLM and delivery systems to show what the R&D dollar returns, not to run engineering.
What this is, and what it is not. A preview of a planned domain, not a live product. In production it would sit read-only on top of your PLM, issue-tracking, roadmap, and source systems - reading progress and effort and surfacing investment, delivery, throughput, and time-to-market. It does not manage projects, assign work, or write code; it gives engineering leaders a portfolio view. The framing is augmentation, not headcount. All figures here are synthetic.
R&D spend & plan ($M) synthetic
Portfolio by stage synthetic
Signals worth attention
Synthetic preview. In production, derived read-only from PLM, issue-tracking, and roadmap systems with SHA-256-anchored lineage, as in SCO.
Portfolio
The full R&D portfolio - projects by stage and value, and how the portfolio moved.
Portfolio movement (TTM) synthetic

|---|---|---|---|
| Next-gen actuator line | Development | $32M | Yes |
| Smart-sensor platform | Validation | $24M | At risk |
| Lightweight housing | Launch | $18M | Yes |
| Controls firmware v3 | Development | $14M | Yes |
| Sustainable materials | Concept | $9M | Yes |
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads portfolio and stage-gate status read-only from PLM; value = projected lifetime contribution.
Delivery & timelines
Whether projects land on time, and which milestones are slipping.
On-time delivery by stage
Slipping projects read-only
| Project | Stage | Slip | Cause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart-sensor platform | Validation | 6 wk | Test capacity |
| Controls firmware v3 | Development | 3 wk | Supplier part |
| Coatings upgrade | Validation | 4 wk | Test capacity |
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads milestone and schedule data read-only; slip = actual vs planned milestone date.
Throughput & velocity
How much engineering work completes over time, and how much is stuck in progress.
Throughput trend synthetic
WIP by team
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads completed-work and WIP read-only from issue-tracking; throughput indexed to a baseline.
Time-to-market
How long ideas take to reach market, and whether that is improving against target.
Time-to-market trend & target synthetic
Time by stage (months)
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads stage-gate timestamps read-only; target is illustrative.
Engineering quality
How much rework and escaped defect the portfolio carries, and where change orders pile up.
ECOs by area
Quality by program read-only
| Program | Escape | Rework |
|---|---|---|
| Actuator line | 2.1% | 8% |
| Smart-sensor | 4.8% | 16% |
| Housing | 2.6% | 9% |
| Firmware v3 | 3.4% | 12% |
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads defect, rework, and ECO data read-only; escape = defects found post-release / total.
Innovation pipeline
The new-product funnel from idea to launch, and the value waiting in it.
NPD funnel (count)
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads NPD stage and value read-only from PLM and roadmap; pipeline value is projected.
Spend & investment
Where the R&D budget goes, split across engineering areas and capex vs opex.
R&D spend by area synthetic
Spend detail read-only
| Area | Spend | vs plan |
|---|---|---|
| Product engineering | $14M | +2% |
| Process / mfg engineering | $8M | -3% |
| Materials / R&D lab | $5M | +1% |
| Software / digital | $4M | +6% |
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads R&D cost read-only; capex/opex split per the customer's capitalization policy.
IP & patents
The intellectual-property portfolio the R&D investment is building.
Patents by domain
Synthetic, aggregated. Reads IP-portfolio metadata read-only; renewal dates surfaced, never filed automatically.
Connectors & data
Where R&D / Product Operations would read from, and the posture it would read with.
Read-only. These connectors are scaffolded, not built - each reports 0/12 conformance until a tenant integration is done. In production they read portfolio, progress, and effort metadata read-only, with SHA-256-anchored lineage. AssetShop does not manage projects, assign work, or write to source control; PLM and issue trackers stay authoritative.
R&D / Product connectors
| System | Category | Mode | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| PTC Windchill / Teamcenter | PLM | Read-only | Scaffolded 0/12 |
| Jira | Issue tracking | Read-only | Scaffolded 0/12 |
| Aha! / roadmap | Roadmap | Read-only | Scaffolded 0/12 |
| GitHub / GitLab | Source control | Read-only | Scaffolded 0/12 |
| Product analytics | Usage | Read-only | Scaffolded 0/12 |
How it stays trustworthy
Planned domain. Connectors are scaffolds; functional conformance (12/12) is verified per tenant at integration, never assumed.
Signals & opportunities
